Description

The Historic Northeastern Wall of Islamic Cairo was built during the Fatimid era and it was placed outside the urban area of Cairo to be considered the fortress of the city. The lower part of the wall includes defensive towers of refined and polished stones, the upper part (almost one third of the wall) includes square rooms with rectangular holes -where the archers used to stand inand the inner body of the wall has stone corridors more than 25 meters high. TEC-MERGE was assigned the restoration works of the Historic Wall, which included the architectural and delicate restoration works, the structural reinforcement work in the facades and towers, the replacement of the damaged stones with similar stones that matched the old ones in terms of mechanical, chemical and physical properties without affecting the nature of the historic monument. The scope of works also included cleaning, injection and restoration of the wall.
